Your mind could use some TLC

As cliché as it is, I find it often that when it rains it pours. That’s exactly what this last year has been like and none of us are truly alone in that. HOWEVER – that does not mean that your experiences are any worse or better than others’. The factors that happen in our individual lives play a part, too. The way trauma, past experiences, attachment styles, coping skills, and others influence our ability to respond to current circumstances is important to keep in mind. If you have never considered yourself to have very challenging times in the past and are finding it harder to manage your emotions around recent circumstances, it’s okay to go to therapy. If you just got done with therapy last year and find that you are regressing, it’s okay to go to therapy. If you don’t feel sure about WHAT you need, but know that something needs to be different then it’s okay to go to therapy. You are a part of so many systems that are mutually influential which is why daily circumstances compacted by broader issues can lead to individual stress. Talking to someone can help you sort through your thoughts and feelings in order to recognize what you can control as well as what you want to control. A therapeutic experience is dependent on what you want the end of treatment to look like, how involved you are with the process, and how willing you are to make changes outside of session. As a therapist, I can’t do the work for you, but I can help you along the way. Even if right now you find that your life is free of crises, it’s okay to go to therapy. Sometimes it’s better to go when you have the mental capacity to even talk about issues. I hope that you take care of your mental health in more ways than one and remember that you deserve to be happy. A little help can go a long way.
